Julia Vess

I know that I have severely neglected my blog, and there probably aren't even in readers out there, but if you are still reading...
A close family friend of ours came into town this week when his mother disappeared from her home in Simpsonville, SC on Sunday afternoon.
Her family has spent an agonizing week wondering about the safety and whereabouts of a wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Julia Vess is 48 years old. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall and she weighs 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Her car, a 2004 silver Toyota Corolla, is also missing. The license plate number is AGN-309.
The family is offering a reward for information that leads to her being found.
First and foremost, PRAY!

Bridal Shower

I have to throw a Bridal Shower soon, and I've begun to think to myself...
"Self, how can I make this Bridal Shower NOT cheesy and tedious, like most other bridal showers I've been to in the past? What can I do to throw the most rock star bridal shower this town has ever seen?"

So far, all that I have come up with is Slip-n-Slide. I'm not sure my sister would appreciate this. Anyone have any better ideas?

Something to Blog About

I'm back from my unintentional, month-long blog fast. What was keeping me away, you ask?

I wish I could tell you that I've been 100% productive in the use of my time and have written a best-selling novel in the past month...but I haven't.
It would be neat if I'd spent the past month in the Amazon, preaching the gospel to those who haven't heard...but it would be a lie to tell you that.
What if I'd taken a 30 day vow of silence and felt that blogging would compromise the integrity of this promise...nope.

Alas, the past month has been typical, and without inspiration. I apologize. There is no excuse.

We had an interesting weekend. We got to see family, and experience the "Snow Storm that Rocked the Southeast 2009". The snow started falling Sunday afternoon, and after a family dinner, Zach and I set out for NGU. This would become one of the scariest car rides I've ever been on (sorry Mom and Cathy..but we made it back in one piece). At points, we could barely see in front of us for the huge snowflakes that were falling directly towards the windshield, and it became increasingly difficult to distinguish between the lines on the road as the snow grew ever deeper. I was dreaming of the sledding to be had on Monday, provided we made it back to school, when we reached a point on 253 about 2 minutes from school. I looked out the window and could not believe my eyes....IT WAS RAINING!
Everywhere in the Southeast, on ALL sides of NGU was blanketed with some of the heaviest snow we have seen in years. Simpsonville got about 6 inches....Saluda got a foot. North Greenville University received a light dusting...a tease. There was only some sledding to be had, and our day off from school (due to the icy conditions all around us) was actually spent studying. Oh the irony.

I'd like to make a habit of this blogging thing...

my apologies, friends

I'm sorry for the slow blogging week. School is picking up.
  • class (a lot)
  • working (a little)
  • school work (a bunch)
  • wedding planning (a load)
This week I started my field experience at Armstrong Elementary School. I like my cooperating teacher, and the 3rd grade class that I am going to be in. I also had my first intramural basketball game. My team won, thanks to some of the really awesome players on our team. We're looking forward to Zach's first game on Tuesday night!

I have ideas, but haven't had the time and motivation to write. I hope to do better guys!

Never thought of it before...

I've been working in the game room at NGU for a couple hours a week this semester. My duties basically include taking id's, retrieving necessary equipment, and doing homework.
I realized something just a few moments ago (as I am writing this from work). I'd never thought of it before, but it makes sense:
Tennis players translate to really good ping pong players, which is pretty entertaining in the unexciting business of game room watching.

20 January 2009

When I first began blogging I was talking to someone who said,
"I generally don't like to read blogs, and I don't maintain a blog myself, because eventually they all just become a venue for the writer to complain about everything."
I found these words of wisdom to be very helpful, and have tried to keep them in mind with each blog that I have composed. That is why I must apologize for this blog, because I simply want to complain. Here it goes:
1. The weather forecasters have been promising us snow. There was an 80% chance of snow during the night, which means an 80% chance of classes being canceled, and and 80% chance of getting to use the sled my mom bought me for Christmas. I stayed up late last night to wait for the snow that didn't arrive; and I didn't wake up to see the snow laden baseball field outside my window, either. I'm sorely disappointed...but have high hopes for tomorrow!

2. I recently renewed my McAfee subscription, and have found that it not only wants to scan my computer for viruses, it also wants to be an over-protective mother. McAfee has not allowed me to check my email on my own computer for almost a week now. I'm annoyed by that little site advisor bar, and want my money back.

If you're still reading, then I appreciate you allowing me to rant. I hope to have something more interesting to say in the near future.

Happy Birthday Lauren!!!
